Kargil Vijay Diwas 26 JULY!!!! JAI HIND

Kargil Vijay Diwas 26 JULY!!!!

Some Special places of Uttarakhand

Some special places of Uttarakhand !!!!

1. KASAR DEVI, ALMORA

Kasar Devi is located in Uttarakhand’s Kumaon region, 14 km/35 min north of Almora. A quiet Himalayan getaway, it is also a base for day trips to Almora, Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary, and the Jageshwar temples.

On a clear day, a panoramic view of the Himalayas—from Nanda Devi to the five snow-capped peaks of Panchachuli—unfurls above Kasar Devi, a small hilltop village near Almora in Uttarakhand. A single road runs along the top of the ridge, with about 200 homes dotting the slopes on either side. I first went there on a school picnic nearly 15 years ago. Everything beyond Kasar Devi temple was deemed out of bounds and we were especially warned to steer clear of “Hippie Hill.” Over time I learned that the area, also known as Crank’s Ridge, used to be a pulsing hub of art, poetry, mysticism, and hippie subculture. This history still brings backpackers to the village where homestays, old general stores, and new cake shops cater to their needs.

2. Jageshwar temple Uttarakhand

Jageshwer temple about 33 kilometers from Almora on Almora-Barechina Road (16 kms) and further 17 kms from there. It's a place of religious interest, it may also be of liking to those interested in old temple structures. The rates for religious services are fixed. Pujari's are friendly and cooperative. A beautiful valley surrounded with tall Devdar trees are enough enticement for nature lovers. The place is said to have been discovered by Aadi Shankar on his way to Kailash, and he encouraged the King to build a temple there. There are many temple within the present premises, most visited is Mritunjay Mahadev, Jageshwar and Mahishasurmardini, a very beautiful statute, worshiped in the form of Goddess Lakshmi.

3. Kapileshwar Mahadev Mandir, PithoraGarh

Kapileshwar Mahadev temple is on the hilltop and one can reach it after at least half an hour climb from Pithoragarh town. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva deep inside the cave.
As you climb the hill, you get better and better view of Pithoragarh town and Soar valley. From the height one can see the hill where Dhwaj temple is there. The view of the town of Pithoragarh and the valley is fabulous.
At the temple which is a deep cave on the top of the hill, climb down in the cave and coming up is quite difficult. At times you have to pass in very narrow cavity barely sufficient for your body to curl up or down. When you reach the bottom of the cave which is more than 25 feet down you can have view of Kapileshwar Mahadev, natural rock formation of Lord Shiva. The cave is millions of years old and being within the cave is an experience.

After coming out from the cave temple, the view all around the hills is beautiful. A word of caution: only very fit people should try to get in the cave as there is no support inside in the form of chains or somebody guiding you inside.

4. Pataal Bhubaneswar Uttarakhand

Patal Bhuvaneshwar (पाताल भुवनेश्वर) is a limestone cave temple 14 km from Gangolihat in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand state in India. It is located in the village Bhubneshwar. Legend and folklore have it that this cave enshrines Lord Shiva and thirty three koti gods (33 crores of gods in Hindu culture). The cave is 160 m long and 90 feet deep from the point of entrance. Limestone rock formations have created various spectacular stalactite and stalagmite figures of various hues and forms. This cave has a narrow tunnel-like opening which leads to a number of caves. The cave is fully electrically illuminated. Built by the flow of water, Patal Bhuvaneshwar is not just one cave, rather a series of caves within caves.

Famous Garhwali and Kumaoni Food

Famous Garhwali and Kumaoni Food

Gahat ke Paranthe:

This dish comes right from the kitchen of Uttarakhand. Prepared by stuffing Gahat Dal(a special brown lentil) in the wheat and mandua flour (Finger Millet/Ragi), Gahat ke Paranthe make excellent breakfast option in Uttarakhand. They can be served with the famed Bhang ki Chutney or any regular veg recipe.

Aalu Ka Jhol:

Here is an all time favorite for the people of Uttarakhand and you ask why, because it is simple to make and scrumptious to savoir. The entire preparation takes less than 15 minutes, so it is one of those dishes that one can abide by when either too tired or lazy to cook. Just boil some potatoes,
prepare a simple onion and tomato curry and leave the potatoes in it to cook over slow fire and the result is well…surprising!

Kafuli:

It is a dish that almost all Pahadis swear by in Uttarakhand. Well, if you ask me, I can have this every single day without complaining…it is that exotic! Made from spinach and fenugreek leafs and cooked in an iron kadhai, kafuli is complimented by hot steaming rice. The gravy for this dish is prepared by adding rice or wheat flour paste along with water.

Phanoo:

This one is a complex dish as it requires more efforts than other dishes in Uttarakhand.
Phanoo is basically a preparation made by mixing different lentils (including the special Gahat) that are soaked in water overnight. It is basically a soupy dish that goes best with steaming white rice.
Phaanu is an excellent lunch option especially in winter in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.

Chainsoo:

High protein coming your way! Chainsoo, a popular dish from Garhwal is made of Urad or Kali Dal (whole), which is reckoned to consist of a lot of protein in it. Although, sometimes it is said that Chainsoo is hard to digest (due to high protein) but it certainly is worth trying. Offering a very earthy flavor, this dish is prepared by first roasting the lentil and then making a fine paste of it.
The daal is kept for cooking in an iron Kadhai over slow fire and Voila! You have some mouth watering food to eat!

Arsa:

Those with sweet tooth are going to love this. Well, honestly this can be the Pahadi version of Pua (another sweet item made in many North Indian states). What makes Arsa different from Pua is the use of jaggery and curd in it. Once prepared these soft round balls can be munched during tea time or as a dessert after meals. These sweet balls seem to melt in mouth and the flavor of jaggery and curd is so prominent that once eaten, you wouldn’t forget the taste for long.

Singodi:

Coming to Kumaon and not tasting Singodi is a sin! This sweet made of Khoya (condensed milk) and then wrapped into the leaf of Molu is iconic. The fresh smell of Molu leaf and the taste of condensed milk flavoured with cardamom and coconut will leave you asking for more.
Almora is the most famous place to try Singodi in Uttarakhand.

INDIA TOURISM :10 MOST FAMOUS PLACES IN INDIA

INDIA TOURISM : TOP 10 MOST FAMOUS PLACES IN INDIA:

TAJ MAHAL AGRA

One of Agra’s most popular attractions, the Taj Mahal is not just famous in India but is a monument renowned across the world. Built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his deceased wife Mumtaz, it is emblematic of the emperor’s deep love for his wife and the grief he experienced at her passing. A landmark monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Taj Mahal is one of the most admired Mughal masterpieces in the world and is nothing short of poetry crafted in marble. The architect of the Taj Mahal was Ustad Ahmed Lahauri and the design is representative of Indian, Persian and Islamic styles of architecture. It took 21 years for the Taj Mahal to be constructed (from 1632 to 1652) with over 20,000 labourers working night and day.
Described as a “teardrop on the face of eternity” by legendary poet Rabindranath Tagore, the Taj Mahal never fails to impress visitors. Take a relaxed stroll through the grounds or just sit and admire the beautiful, reflective pools and exquisite gardens on the premises. To truly experience its ethereal beauty, visit the Taj Mahal early in the morning when it’s relatively quieter and less crowded or on a full moon night when the white marble glows against the backdrop of the dark, night sky.

2. THE GOLDEN TEMPLE

This majestic temple is a must-visit attraction for anyone; featuring stunning architecture and a grandiose atmosphere that is almost unmatchable. Built in 1604 the Golden Temple sits lower than its surrounding buildings and has 4 entrances which symbolise the fact that anyone is welcome no matter where you come from or what you believe. Surrounded by water and glistening with gold; this must be on your itinerary!

Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh Fort is a tremendous sight whichever time of the day you decide to visit. Rising well above the city below, the fort is a totally imposing but strangely beautiful sight to behold. To get to the fort, visitors have to pass through 7 gates; many of which still bear battle scars dating back through the centuries. If you want a real taste of history then a visit here will satisfy your cravings! One of its many admirers, Rudyard Kipling described The Golden Temple thusly; “A Palace that might have been built by Titans and colored by the morning sun.”

Mysore Palace

This established icon of India is simply stunning; Mysore Palace was built in 1912 and contains 18 decorative temples. The Palace is at the center of The Old Fort complex which features many gardens and courtyards giving the whole area a regal feel. The armory within the palace contains over 700 weapons and gives visitors an exciting glimpse into some of India’s past. Should you wish to be extra impressed by this outstanding building then we urge you to visit on a Sunday evening when the Palace is illuminated by around 100,000 lights and is surely one of the most impressive sights in all of the country.

Located within Pichola Lake; framed by palaces on one bank and the Aravalli Hills on the other, it’s easy to see how the Palace got its romantic reputation. The only way to reach Lake Palace is via boat, and once you reach it there are a myriad of things to do. Within the hotel’s walls you will find the Lily Garden which is a beautiful and tranquil place to relax, throughout the Palace there are a myriad of architectural feats and superbly decorated spaces.

Agra Fort

Located close to the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort is an unmissable red fortress containing many traditional Indian wonders. The impression one gets from a visit to this fort is one of grandeur, with some of the buildings within its confines being constructed with marble. Its long and colourful history includes many instances of armies utilising the fort; something which is still the case today as the Indian Army still uses part of the fort! Visit Agra Fort and be blown away by the fabulous architecture.
